During the course of last year i started of by doing the things that i had mainly done in college the prevoius years, but towards the later part of the year i started to experiment a lot more and tried to come up with more process based work than trying to use the computer to create final images. I tried many things that i had not really covered before, like screen printing, letter press and stenciling to name a few. I want to keeps this experimental approach up. Over summer I have started doin t-shirts for myself and friends. I have mainly done this by using stencils and spray paint. I want to carry on doing this an trying other methods of printing onto materials. Also want to carry on the typography work I was doing, trying to come up with different types of lettering and trying to apply them into pieces of work.

This year I want to keep up the approach of trying new techniques. As this is my last year I want to try to learn as many meduims as possible. Think its important to be a well rounded designer when going for jobs. Obvouisly the more things you know how to pull of the more work you will get. I would like to try get to grips with some kind of moving image work. Having talked to fellow student Nick Colyer I would like to maybe collaberate on some stop frame animation work. As Nick learned the basics on his trip to Berlin seems like a oppotunity to learn the processs and get a piece of work done with somebody who has previous experience doing stock frame. Also think its important to get used to taking more photographs. I notice that when u take photos they can always be used for a pieces of work, whether its at the time or not.
Resources i need this year would be mainly paper and paint and inks. Also for t-shirt designs will need some plain t-shirts. Think this year i would like to learn a few more programs on the mac. If a project calls for it i will finnally try to use with inDesign as i have always used Quark and illustrator.

Think i will try to do a equal amount of external briefs and self-determined projects. I think it is important to come up with your own work and let your imagination go wild but i think its also important to do external briefs as it teaches you that in the working world you have rules and criterea that you sometimes have to adear to. I have been spending some of my summer in London with one of my friends who is working as a freelance illustrater. He has been telling me about the pro’s and con’s of always doing the type of work you want to do. Got the impression that if your working free-lance doing your own thing you dont always have a constant wage. But he seems to be doing well when he has got work though. Having travelled over most of the continents already. He uses alot of black markers and spray paint, i think there is alot more people starting to take that kind of art form more seriously. He has been gettin alot of work in advertising to.
One of my main influences an inspritions like many people my age is music. Having done work for flyers and events being put on by friends and friends of friends. Seems like a easy thing to do as I alreadyhave an intrest in it the ideas seem to come fairly easily. I also want to look at cholo writing this year. I’ve always found it a intresting form of type. I want to look at how type and text from other cultures maybe not from this time period and see its influence on modern type and vice-versa.
Think with my work i try to be fairly modern in my approach and style wise. Used to like a lot of pollised graphics but am now finding a leaning towards more had made designs. There is something that seems more creative about using more hand made techniques. But the thing I think is key to good design is the idea, which i think a lot of my work had lacking in the first part of last year . Still think the idea and the theme for the piece of work is always very important.
Basically by the end of the year i want to have learnt some new process skills and brush up on the things i like and already know how to do.

Latest illustations i have done have been heavly influenced by american sports logos. I like the fact that the have to work on so many things and in so many sizes. The Rock n roll rat is for a banf t-shirt. They play punk rock and thought it was a good character to sum up the band

Illustration for the library. We where each given a number to illustrate. I was given 22. This is a more literal view of a catch 22

Started making t-shirts at the start of the term with spray paint and stencils. Found it very "fidley" to cut out the stencils. These are the first time I've screen printed on any thing other than paper. Influences for the images are indirectly from comic books, hip-hop and pop culture
first images in 3rd year. Mostly pen and pencil some paint also used. Been experimenting with illustation and playing around with t-shirt design. I have been screen printing these images so i have taken in to consideration how well they will screen print when selecting the images i draw
